Magazine Pitch Ideas/Justification
Music Magazine: Casbah Clash is a brand new magazine which targets a local Sheffield audience with a focus on bringing the attention back to Sheffield artists after the age of Sheffield bands like Pulp and Arctic Monkeys through using features of upcoming local bands. The purpose of this magazine to inspire local artists and get their names out there in the music industry, alongside the magazine itself. I can interview local bands and give tips on upcoming gigs to inform the target audience of music fans in Sheffield; reaching them through selling the magazine in places like the Leadmill. A weakness however, of this magazine would be an inability to get consistent features who would be willing to take part in the magazine with such a small demographic to work with. However, Sheffield's musical history acts as a strength to engage more readers who want to learn more and be updated regarding what is currently happening in the industry. Music as a whole genre not being particularly niche either therefore, reaching a wider audience.
Film Magazine: Studio Sheffield aims to highlight Sheffield's emerging film industry with features and interviews from those involved in the industry that are local such as Warp Films and Jellyfish pictures to encourage media enthusiasts who live in Sheffield and are unaware of the opportunities available to them. The purpose of the magazine being to feature upcoming short films of local film-makers which can be interviewed to advertise themselves and their films as well as educating those interested in film-making about how they can start their career. A weakness of this magazine however, would be a lack of film-makers to fuel the magazine's contents in the long run, especially with content that is fitting for the magazine due to the limitations of just Sheffield. A strength however, would be that film as a genre of magazine not being particularly niche either therefore, would reach a wider audience.
Cocktail Magazine: The Rum Shack is a cocktail magazine which seeks to fill a vital gap in the Sheffield demographic as a local magazine which seeks to educate and inform the local population about various kinds of alcoholic drinks including key-spirits as features. The interviews which could be taken for this magazine would be of local Sheffield cocktail enthusiasts however, a weakness would be that this would be a niche genre in the magazine medium and would therefore, lead to lower circulation. However, this would potentially create a cult following meaning circulation would be likely consistent and photography would also not always necessarily require models due to the focus on cocktails, allowing for easier production. Additionally the magazine would also be unlikely to attract audiences under 18 due to the legal drinking age.
